Teaching Philosophy
My approach to teaching the clarinet highlights a range of repertoire and techniques promoting equitable, diverse, and inclusive experiences. I seek to help students realize their potential by fostering flexibility and versatility in their playing by exposing them to a broad range of the instrument's literature drawn from their own interests. Through learning a great deal about where they are coming from, I can thus better support the development of their own musical identity, a process that I also model by sharing my Latin American heritage. My experiences have shown that meaningful engagement with music is always collaborative. As a teaching artist, I aim to create inclusive spaces that foster learners’ technical fluency as well as their social identities, helping them take ownership of their learning experiences.
